Budget released , Kolkatans To Get Metro Joyride by Mid '18

Since 2010 , Kolkata is facing Numerous Problems regarding its Metro Network . Fortunately , after initiatives taken by the State Government , Kolkata Metro is completely free of land acquisition problems . Work seems to be very fast on all stretches now .

India had its 2017-18 Budget , which also included the Rail Budget . "If we get proper amount of money within time , then we might start services partially on the upcoming lines" said Dilip Karmakar , a Metro Official .

Following are the Lines which has possibilities to be operational within June 2018 , as stated by Metro.

1. Noapara - Airport (Line 4)
2. Noapara - Dakshineshwar (Line 1)
3. Noapara - Ruby Hospital (Line 6)
4. Sector 5 - Sealdah (Line 2)

While all stations are almost complete in the above stretches , the 8.4 km Joka - Majerhat (Line 3) is no where near completion . No Sign of Joka Depot work noticed . Viaduct is 80% complete in the stretch , except the depot ramp and the Taratala-Majerhat stretch , where pier construction is yet to start . I believe , Kolkatans cannot enjoy the joyride of Joka - Majerhat Metro before June 2019 .

New Garia - Ruby Hospital Metro , the first section of the upcoming 32 Km New Garia - Airport Line 6 , is all set to be operational by June 2018 . The ₹4259.90 crore project got a handsome amount of ₹250 crore which is enough for its completion within the deadline . The section is only 5.1 km . Depot construction has started , along with 4 world class stations . A 5.1 km stretch can be easily covered up with 4 number of 14 sets of CNR-DALIAN rakes at a frequency of 5 to 10 minutes if 65 to 80 km/h speed is maintained . The rakes are scheduled to be supplied within June 2018 . Remaining 10 rakes can be used for Joka-Majerhat , Noapara - Dakshineshwar and Noapara - Airport lines .

The 6.3 km Noapara - Airport Metro (Line 4) and the 4.1 km Noapara - Dakshineshwar Metro (Line 1) are really nearing completions . While Line 4 station work has started beside Jessore Road and Dum Dum Cantt,  the excavation of the airport metro station as well as the 1.7 km tunneling work did not even start . Ramp is ready at Jessore Road . No encroachers removed yet from the plot which is parallel to the Railway Track near Subhash Nagar in Dum Dum Cantonment area.

The 4.1 km Noapara-Dakshineshwar stretch is probably the fastest among the ongoing Metro Constructions . Hats Off to the Simplex Infrastructures Limited , the contractor company responsible for the stretch's construction . There is 95% chance that Kolkatans can board a metro to the temple town of Dakshineshwar by  . 2018 All emcroachers removed . Both the projects got ₹220 crore and ₹100 crore respectively .

The 8.9 km Sector 5 - Sealdah stretch of the upcoming 31 km Haldiram/Sector 5 - Howrah Maidan/Satragachhi East West corridor is almost complete . Tracks are laid on the viaducts except the 365 m Duttabad stretch . Rails are being welded inside the 5 km Subhash Sarovar - Sealdah Twin Tunnels . The ₹8996.90 crore project luckily got ₹1937 crore , out of which only one third will be used for Sector 5 - Sealdah stretch . The rest is to be used for the construction of the underwater Tunneling under River Hooghly , which has already begun . The money will also be used to construct Howrah Maidan , Howrah , Mahakaran and the 3-line interchange Esplanade station .

Following is the chart of all lines , their inauguration dates and alloted money in 2017-18 Budget
