CESC Power Failure Stops Metro during Office Time

" We were having a smooth cruise inside the tunnel . Suddenly all went dark , freaking all passengers inside the coach ! Thanks to the Pneumatic Braking System of the rake ! It made us reach the station ! " , said a motorman of Kolkata Metro .

Today Morning ( Thursday , 23/02/2017 ) , this was the condition of metro ! Luckily , it wasn't a fault of Metro . Fault Credit goes to Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC).

Sources said that 3 Units of CESC's Budge Budge Thermal Power Plant , which generates 750 MW stopped . This affected parts of North , Central and South Kolkata .

"Kolkata Metro's Electricity Supply is currently feeded by 4 receiving substations, that is equal to 8 Feeders . No trains were completely stuck inside the tunnels . Only 1 train , which was approaching Shyambazar, got stuck inside the tunnel , with 3 coaches inside the station . Its quite unfortunate that all of our 4 Receiving Substations had Failure . This never happened before . Our rakes have a unique feature , called Pneumatic Braking System , which allows the train to automatically move towards the upcoming station even if there is a Power Cut . " , said Metro CPRO Indrani Banerjee .

The Power Cut lasted for 15 minutes , resulting in Indisciplined Condition of both Underground and Over ground stations , as well as Road Transportations .
