[Photos] [Videos] February-March Updates of All Lines !

Its already the third month of the year , and things aren't moving so fast . Here are some updates :-



East West Corridor (Line 2) :- 



The inauguration of Sealdah-Sector 5 section , i.e Phase 1 completely depends upon the rake manufacturing company BEML . They did not yet deliver a single rake , and KMRCL is planning to open the section by June 2018 .

Tracks are completely laid on the elevated sections , except Sector 5 station (as the rooftop work is still under progress) . Check out these photos :-

KMRCL successfully completed the Howrah Maidan - Howrah twin tunnels a month ago . Sources said that TBM S640 (Prerna) has already been launched from Howrah Shaft towards the riverbed last week . By now , the TBM has successfully completed 180 metres . Its approximately 120 metres away from riverbed and will take about 20 days to reach the river . I expect the TBM to go under river by 1st week of April .

Noapara - Dakshineshwar :-  Work is progressing very rapidly . The extension is suffering from a 350 m stretch at Rajeevnagar , where encroachers aren't agreeing to shift to their alloted flats as they got only 200 sq ft flats instead of promised 360 sq ft Flat . Expected deadline is December 2018 . 


Noapara - Airport :- Currently suffering from encroachment problem in a 823 metre section in between Noapara and Dum Dum Cantt. at Subhasnagar where work did not even start .

This line no more has any Encroachment Problems . Its completely free of Land Logjams . February was a good month for it , as it cleared many hurdles . The land for VIP Bazar Station was acquired . The Fish Market which was blocking the way for Metro was dismantled last week . 

The Construction of the New Garia Metro Depot for this new line resumed last month , after Rabin Sardar , who refused to vacate a crucial plot needed for the terminal station finally agreed to shift . 

Construction Work has started at Chingrighata . The Chingrighata station is also under construction , after Jal Vayu Vihar agreed with the study by RITES .

A pillar (pier no 322) is supposed to come up at the entrance of Jal Vayu Vihar - built 27 years ago in LB Block - at the southwestern extremity of Salt Lake's Sector III. RITES 

re-studied the stretch , and Jal Vayu Vuhar agreed with the 2nd construction type . 


Building Demolitions also started at Mahisbathan . A school has been already shifted to somewhere else from Mahisbathan. The residential apartments will also be imploded soon . 

Metro Plans to throw open the Phase I of the line (New Garia - Ruby Hospital) by June 2018 , which is likely to be missed as the depot construction has just started . It will take nearly a year to be completed . Then Tracks will be laid and finally , rakes will be imported to the line , which is totally a long process .

Joka-Esplanade :- Not a paceful one . Still progressing ! This disastrous line has made travelling a nightmare for many extreme South-Western Kolkatans . 

The line acquired nearly 80% of land at Joka for depot till now . But until and unless it gets whole land , its not going to have a depot . Which means even if the construction of stations and viaduct gets over , trains won't run . Now nothing can be as demotivating as this statement ! 

Metro Also got all lands needed for the construction of Majerhat station . Buildings were demolished last week . 

Each 182 m long stations can accommodate an 8 coach rake . I didn't recieve any confirmation regarding the installation of Platform Screen Doors in the line . I think they badly need PSDs ! Come On , we can't have Suicide Zones in our City any more !

Rakes :- Regarding rakes , I have a good news for you ! I recently recieved a confirmation that about 60-70 % work of the ICF-MEDHA rakes are complete . We can expect them to be chugging on our tracks by 1st Week of June ! 

The delay is due to trials . You already know that the 2 rakes Metro's going to get are the prototypes of 2nd Series of AC rakes (4000 series ICF-MEDHA) . So they badly need at least a month for trial runs . Then only they'll be commercially pushed into service . 

Since June of 2016 , I've been hearing that BEML has started manufacturing the rakes for Line 2 . I don't know , is it a reality for a company to keep on manufacturing one single rake for 9 months ? A company who has already delivered more than a thousand GoA3 and GoA4 cars to Delhi , Bengaluru and Jaipur ? 

Being a train-manufacturing company , unlike Alstom and Bombardier they don't provide any exact deadline of delivery . Still , a news channel recently mentioned that they are going to deliver the 1st rake by October 2017 . Lets Hope !

Now here comes the unfortunate information about CNR-Dalian rakes . They are going to be the most modern rakes , Kolkata has ever seen . Here's the design :- 


Neither CNR-DALIAN nor Kolkata Metro is providing any updates regarding the manufacturing/delivery of the rakes . Long before they unveiled the design of the rakes , they stated that the 1st rake is going to be imported from China by June 2017 . Now , as I'm quite confirmed that the rakes are to be run on the tracks of Joka-Esplanade or New Garia-Airport lines (most probably Joka Line as the 15 km line will need not more than 14 rakes ) , they aren't going to deliver until the tracks are ready inside the new Kavi Subhash Depot or Joka Depot .
