Kolkata Metro Line 1 Extension (Photos)

Line 1 of Kolkata Metro was the 1st Mass Rapid Transit System in the Indian Subcontinent . Initially started with 5 stations -- Netaji Bhawan to Esplanade , it is now a 24 station line (Noapara to Kavi Subhash) .

In 2010 , The then Railway Minister Mamata Bannerjee declared a 6.1 km extension from Dum Dum to Dakshineshwar . Since then , only Noapara is operational . Work for the rest 4.1 km stretch got paused due to encroachment problems .

Last year , after sudden intervention by the West Bengal government , Metro cleared all the landlock problems and work resumed .

Now , more than 20% of viaduct work is complete and almost all piers are erected in the stretch . Here is an awesome video of the full Noapara-Dakshineshwar stretch (click here to watch video) . Check out these cool images clicked by Rohit Das :-

The way the work is progressing , it seems that one can have a Joyride by End of 2018 .

Once Again Thanks to Rohit Das for gifting these photos to me .

  1. The 5th image I believe is for diverting the road. Not sure if its for station work. They are diverting the Belgharia expressway and take over the road space for metro work.

    1. Yes you are right . I visited the site yesterday and found that a new bridge is being constructed over B.T.Road .
